DO IT: COPPER-DIPPED BAR STOOLS
I had these bar stools around for a bit and contemplated donating them to Goodwill. Thankfully through Pinterest, I got this idea from my nail art board to add a bit of “oomph” to them, and now they’re sitting pretty in my living room.
What you’ll need:
- 2 cans of spray paint of whatever you color you want
- 1 paint sample for the base of your stools.
- 1 inch painting brush
- 1/2 inch soft bristle painting brush
- Painters tape
- Newspaper or paper grocery bags (cut open the bag on one side)
- An old sheet
I’m going to tell you what I should have done, because what I did was opposite and more stressful than it should be. This is going to be a, “Do as I say, not as I do,” post.
Paint the legs of your stools the color you want. I used Valspar’s Ultra White paint sample. Let it dry for an hour, then apply painters tape above to where you want the “dipped” area to stop and the top of the legs where the seats meet. You can use painters tape down the legs if you want, depending on how much tape you have.
Flip the stool over and spray paint underneath the seat (pictured here is Rust-Oleum's Copper Spray). It doesn't have to be perfectly coated. Once that's dry, flip the stool right side up and tape the paper around the stool, covering the majority of the legs. Spray paint the seat of the stool and the ends twice, depending on the color you’re using and covering up. Allow to dry for an hour. I left mine outside overnight but I also wasn’t in a big rush.
Once they are dry, do any touch-ups you need to with the base color using a dry, flat brush. You’re done!
Place them where you want and let them stand out. I haven’t had a lot of traffic on them yet, but so far the color’s held up on them.
Enjoy your new piece of furniture and happy weekend! -C
