I'M TIRED

Eric Garner's last words, repeated 11 times as NYPD cop chocked him to death

I can't breathe.

Eric Garner's last words as a NYPD cop chocked him to death.

Today, NYPD decided not to charge the same cop who chocked him to death. This was all caught on tape, and yet, nope, no nothing.

Oh, but they indicted the person who filmed the entire situation. 'Merica.

I'm tired. I'm tired of seeing this happen. I'm tired of fighting. I'm tired of trying to sign petitions. I'm tired of people telling me, "Well, it won't happen to you. You're not like them." What does that mean anyway?

I'm tired of people saying we should be colorblind. I shouldn't have to erase my color for you to feel comfortable around me. And people still see my color. And I don't want to be blind to it. I love my color. I love being Black. I was born Black, I will live Black, and I will die Black.

I'm tired of people thinking it's just "our" problem when this is a human rights issue. There's a new age genocide happening at this very moment and people want to pretend it's not. I can't comprehend this.

Yes, genocide: the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.

Police are deliberately out here killing people of color, one by one, and getting away with it. There are laws created to stereotype people of color as "dangerous" so they can kill them (see Trayvon Martin). This is happening right now in our country, the land of the "free" and home of the "brave."

And note, when I say "I" I mean we. I mean the PoC who wake up every day, try to do the right things and abide be the laws of this land only to realize none of it matters. That if someone sees us as "threatening" we'll die and then have our name dragged throughout the media like it's our fault.

I'm tired. We're tired. We're so tired.
