DETOXING: THE MIND

I randomly decided to do a “detox” series. The first post on food is here for your reading pleasure. It just happened on a whim, honestly. This is the second part, maybe the last part, for no particular reason. This should be more organized, but eh.

When we think of the word "detox," it usually applies to getting rid of something before replacing it with something else, right?

I’m no expert in this.

In fact, I should see an expert in this, but more on that later.

I’ve felt a little clouded for a while. I realize I ask questions that have the obvious answers (for example: “What comes on the BLT?” Seriously?) or I can’t speak coherently and jumble over my own words. I've just been feeling off and "weird" for a while, and I needed to find some kind of focus.

I started incorporating yoga into my daily routine again after stopping for a few months. My goal is to do yoga every day, but really make it a work out 5 days a week not only for exercise, but to help with breathing and meditating.

I subscribed to “Yoga with Adriene” and Fightmaster Yoga on YouTube and both videos are fantastic.

Yoga with Adriene is great for those wanting to start out and might be "scared" of doing it. Try her 30 Day Yoga Challenge and you'll feel changed.

Fightmaster Yoga is a bit more intense and challenging, but you will still get a great burn and you will feel good afterward.

Picking back up with it is a lot like riding a bike. Most importantly, I’m learning about breathing through my exercises, which has helped when I’ve experienced a few attacks. It’s also helped me with my run, as I’m now working toward increasing my speed and distance.

While using yoga is helping me breathe and leave some of my frustration on the mat, I’ve also picked up my journal again and writing out what’s going on. That hasn’t happened in a long while but I am finding it a bit therapeutic.

I’ve also started eliminating anything that isn’t positive or doesn’t bring me positive thoughts—photos from the past, old messages and numbers from people I don’t talk to anymore, removing friends/accounts from social media, etc. Again, it doesn’t get to the root, but it is a start.

Detoxing the mind is a little bit more challenging because I believe there are layers to this, but the first step is to start, right?

How do you "detox" your mind?

Until next time,
C
